Humboldt Redwoods State Park

Each individual tree is unique

Rock with fossilized shells, placed at entrance of tree
This big ol' tree had a large goose pen, and appeared to have been lived in at some point. The entrance of the tree was painted in spots, special rocks placed in shelved areas on the inside. No initials carved anywhere. Pieces of fabric on the inside, as well as shells. Who lived here, and for how long?

A few photos from this week in Humboldt Redwoods State Park. I'm slowly spending time in as many groves as I can since I pass the park twice a week for work. Usually get an hour in before hand, and a couple hours in the evening. It can be a mysterious place at times, with all sorts of unusual items left behind by people over the years. I'm intrigued by the trees that seem to have been lived in at some point. Several of the big trees with large goose pens seem to have been used as shelters by people. Natives? Kids? Loggers? Outlaws? Eccentrics? Homeless?
